The name Bagamoyo comes from the Swahili words “bwaga moyo”, meaning “throw down you heart,” a despair expressed by people who were captured as slaves, knowing that they faced uncertain future. This town was once a most important trading port along the East Africa Coast and German East Africa Capital. Bagamoyo is home to many ethnic groups, including the Wakwere, Wazaramo and Wazigua. Different culture including people of Arab descent coexist in Bagamoyo making the town a peaceful and friendly place for visitors from all over the world.
